Orem has suggested that three capacities of human beings discriminated from other beings explain a relationship between the state of wholeness or integrity of human beings and some structural and functional changes of health as a whole. Orem thinks on health as a state that indicates wholeness of active human beings as a whole in growth process of progressively integrated development which is time-oriented to the stages of adulthood from childhood. The full vigor and strength, that the term sound means as metaphysical premises of Orem's concept of health, are a necessary condition for explanation through growth and progressive development on the concept of self-care as the principal concept of Orem's nursing theory.
